Askenly MCP server
Askenly runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so Claude or any MCP-compatible AI assistant can work in your workspace from a chat: check how automations performed, draft new ones, find open booking times and schedule Instagram posts, all within your plan’s limits.
What MCP is and why it helps
MCP is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use outside tools safely. Askenly’s MCP server gives your assistant a fixed set of tools for your workspace, signed in with a token you create. You ask in plain words, the assistant picks the tool, and Askenly checks your plan before it reads or changes anything.
Owners use it to get answers without opening the dashboard. Agencies use it to check several client workspaces quickly and to draft automations for review before they go live.
Connect your assistant in three steps
Create a workspace token
Open Settings → Account and create a token. Askenly shows it once, so copy it somewhere safe. Tokens start with ask_.
Add Askenly as a remote MCP server
In your assistant’s connector settings, add the server address /api/public/mcp on your Askenly domain and paste the token. Claude on claude.ai can also connect by signing in and choosing a workspace.
Ask a simple question first
Try “How did my automations do this month?” If the answer comes back, the connection works.
Access and daily limits by plan
Your plan sets what the assistant may do and how many calls it can make each day (counted in UTC).
| Plan | Access | Tool calls per day | New drafts per day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | No access | None | None |
| Starter | Read-only | 200 | None |
| Growth | Read + draft | 1,000 | 10 |
| Scale | Full | 5,000 | 50 |
Monthly plan limits, such as scheduled posts and active automations, also apply to every request.
Read your workspace (Read-only, from Starter)
Look things up without changing anything.
get_workspace_overview
Plan, MCP access level, the workspace's Instagram accounts and their status, and counts of contacts, active automations, upcoming appointments, scheduled posts and open conversations.
list_posts
Content posts with their status and schedule. Filter by status to see the publishing calendar.
list_automations
Instagram automations: name, account, goal, trigger, keywords and whether each is active.
list_contacts
Contacts (leads and customers). Optional search over name, handle and email. With account: that account's contacts plus the workspace-wide ones.
list_appointments
Bookings between two dates (default: the next 14 days).
list_conversations
Recent Instagram DM conversations with the account they came in on, the last message, and whether a person needs to take over.
find_open_slots
Open appointment times for a booking service, in the business's time zone, using its real availability and existing bookings. Without service_id it lists the bookable services and their ids.
Draft and organise (Read + draft, from Growth)
Create drafts, automations and contacts for you to review.
create_draft_post
Create a draft post (caption and optional title). Media is added later in Askenly; drafts are never published automatically.
update_draft_post
Change the caption or title of a post that is still a draft.
create_or_update_automation
Create an Instagram automation the same way the Askenly builder does, or replace one (pass id; send the full automation, fields left out are cleared). Goals: deliver (send a message and/or link), grow (send a link), book (offer booking times or a booking website), answer (FAQ answers). Example: a comment on the latest Reel containing GUIDE sends a Notion link = goal deliver, trigger comment, keywords ["GUIDE"], apply_to latest_post, link_url. New automations start paused unless active is true, and turning one on needs Full access. Appears in Askenly → Automations and can be edited there.
create_or_tag_contact
Add a contact, or update one (by id, or matched by email or Instagram handle): name, email, status and tags. Never deletes a contact.
Act for you (Full, from Scale)
Schedule, pause, book and enrol, with the same checks as the app.
schedule_post
Schedule a post that has media, 5 minutes to 75 days ahead. Counts toward the plan's monthly post limit.
unschedule_post
Move a scheduled post back to draft.
set_automation_status
Turn an automation on or off. Turning on respects the plan's active automation limit.
book_or_reschedule_appointment
Book a customer into an open time (see find_open_slots), move a booking to another open time, or cancel it. Customers with an email get the usual confirmation, reminder and change emails with their reschedule/cancel link.
enroll_in_sales_sequence
Start a Get More Sales email sequence for someone who agreed to receive it. Sends real emails; suppressed or unsubscribed addresses are refused.
Things to ask your assistant
- Show me how my automations performed this month.
- Which conversations need a person right now?
- Create an automation that sends my free guide to anyone who comments GUIDE on my latest Reel.
- Find open times for a consultation next week.
- Draft a caption for tomorrow’s Reel about our spring offer.
- Pause the welcome automation until Monday.
Safety built into every call
Nothing goes live by surprise
Posts it writes stay as drafts, and automations it creates start paused unless your plan has Full access and you ask for them to be turned on.
Your plan’s limits still apply
Daily call and draft caps, monthly post limits and active automation limits are checked on every request.
No Instagram DMs
MCP can’t message your followers. Emails only go to people who agreed to receive them; unsubscribed addresses are refused.
You stay in control
Every call is recorded. Revoke a token or disconnect an app any time in Settings → Account.
Tokens
Workspace tokens start with ask_ (older ones start with dms_ and keep working). Askenly stores only a fingerprint of each token, so nobody can read one back, including us. Treat a token like a password: anyone who has it can use it. If one leaks, delete it in Settings → Account and create a new one.
MCP questions
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools. Askenly’s MCP server gives your assistant a safe set of tools for your workspace.
Which assistants work with it?
Claude (claude.ai, the desktop app and Claude Code) and any other assistant that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP.
Which plan do I need?
MCP starts on Starter with read-only access. Growth adds drafts, and Scale adds scheduling, pausing automations, bookings and email sequences.
Can someone else use my token?
Anyone with the token can use it, so keep it private like a password. It’s shown only once; if it leaks, revoke it in Settings → Account and create a new one.
Does it work with more than one workspace?
Yes. When you connect from claude.ai you choose the workspace to allow, and each token belongs to one workspace.
